Francesco Borromini
Francesco Borromini (Bissone 1599- Rome 1667) is one of the most important architects of the Baroque. The Baroque period of time from the 16th century to mid 18th century when the style is much more loaded than the Renaissance.
He was the son of a stonecutter; he started his career helping his father. Then he went to Milan for study.
In 1719 he arrived to Rome and changed his surname (Castelli) to the surname of his mother (Borromini). In Rome he worked like assistant of Bernini (other important architect) and between them there was a confrontation that continued throughout life.
Almost always worked for the papacy, especially with Inocencio X but with the next pope, Alejandro XII Borromini disappears because resurfaces Bernini.
Then, Borromini made other type of work, especially the church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane.
The Last days of his life happened with a great depression caused by a disease, by his melancholic character and by his envy to Bernini.
This all it leads to suicide driving his own sword the 2nd of August of 1667. He died one day later.
Like all geniuses, had a particular character, he was melancholic and lonely, he had few friends. He given much importance to the expressive freedom of his works.
